Overview

LifeTape is a personal voice journal app. We take your privacy seriously. This policy explains what data is collected, how it is used, and your rights.

Data We Collect

Voice Recordings

Your voice recordings are stored locally on your device only.
Recordings are not uploaded to any server owned or operated by us.

Transcriptions

To convert your recordings to text, audio is sent to OpenAI’s Whisper API.
This transmission is encrypted in transit (HTTPS).
We do not store transcriptions on any server we control — they are saved only to your device’s local database.
Please review OpenAI’s Privacy Policy for how they handle API data.

No Account Required

LifeTape does not require you to create an account.
We do not collect your name, email address, or any personally identifiable information.

No Analytics or Tracking

We do not use any analytics SDKs, advertising identifiers, or crash reporting tools.
We do not track your usage in any form.

Permissions

Permission	Purpose
Microphone	Required to record voice journal entries

We request only the permissions necessary for core functionality.

Data Storage

All journal entries, recordings, and transcriptions are stored locally in a SQLite database on your device. Nothing leaves your device except audio sent to OpenAI for transcription.

Third-Party Services

OpenAI (Whisper API) Audio is sent to OpenAI solely for the purpose of speech-to-text transcription. We do not share any other data with OpenAI. See their policy at https://openai.com/privacy.

We use no other third-party services.

Children’s Privacy

LifeTape is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children.

Changes to This Policy

If we update this policy, the new version will be posted within the app and the effective date will be updated above.
